What Is Ardan Labs Connect and Why It Was Created
At Ardan Labs, we have always believed that some of the most valuable moments in software engineering happen when people come together in the same room. Conversations happen between sessions. Ideas form over coffee. Connections are built that continue long after the event ends.
Ardan Labs Connect was created with this idea in mind. After several years where many technical events moved online, we wanted to help bring engineers back together in person. The goal is simple but meaningful: create spaces where developers can learn, collaborate, and exchange ideas face to face.
Earlier this month, that vision became a reality in São Paulo, Brazil.

The First Ardan Labs Connect Event in São Paulo
Held March 4th and 5th in partnership with GopherCon LATAM, the first Ardan Labs Connect brought together engineers, developers, and technology leaders from across the region for two days of deep learning, discussion, and community building. While this inaugural event centered on Go and artificial intelligence, the broader mission of Ardan Labs Connect is to serve the entire software engineering community.
This event was the first step in what we hope becomes a growing series of gatherings around the world.
Day One: Learning Practical Software Design
The first day of the event was led by Bill Kennedy, Managing Partner at Ardan Labs and long-time Go educator. The focus was Ultimate Software Design, a workshop built around practical strategies for building maintainable systems.
Participants explored architectural thinking, problem decomposition, and design patterns that help engineers create systems that remain stable and adaptable as they grow. Rather than focusing purely on theory, the day emphasized real-world decision making and hands-on exercises that reflected the types of challenges engineers face every day.
For many attendees, the experience went beyond technical knowledge. It was also an opportunity to learn directly from someone whose work has influenced many Go developers over the years.
"Sometimes in your life you will have the rare opportunity to meet extraordinary people… Sometimes… you just need to jump and go for it. Thanks, William Kennedy, for all the knowledge you shared about Golang, AI, and life."
Moments like this highlight one of the main reasons Ardan Labs Connect exists. Technical knowledge is important, but the opportunity to learn directly from experienced practitioners in person creates a different kind of impact.
Day Two: Exploring AI Integration in Modern Software Systems
On the second day, the focus expanded to artificial intelligence and how it fits into modern software engineering with Bill Kennedy’s Ultimate AI workshop.
Rather than treating AI as a separate discipline, the sessions explored how engineers can integrate AI capabilities into real-world systems while still maintaining strong software engineering practices. Participants worked through examples of running LLM models locally, building workflows around AI agents, and integrating these capabilities directly into Go-based applications.
The hands-on nature of the sessions allowed attendees to see how these technologies work in practice rather than just hearing about them in theory.
"On Wednesday and Thursday, I had the honor of participating in a workshop taught by Bill Kennedy! Bill is a leading expert in the Go programming language and brought incredible knowledge to deepen our understanding… A special thank you to everyone who made this a unique experience!"
The energy in the room reflected a shared curiosity about where software engineering is heading and how developers can prepare for the next generation of systems that combine traditional engineering with intelligent capabilities.

Why In-Person Developer Events Still Matter for Engineers
While the technical sessions were a major part of the event, one of the most meaningful outcomes was simply bringing the community together.
Engineers who had previously only interacted through online forums, conference streams, or open source projects were able to meet face to face. Conversations that began during the workshops continued in hallways, during breaks, and throughout the evening.
For many attendees, meeting William Kennedy and the Ardan Labs team in person was a highlight of the experience.
"Finally had the opportunity to meet the boss in person! Today William Kennedy did an excellent talk about running LLM models locally in Go using kronkai.com. Thanks to Ardan Labs for the opportunity, and for hosting this event in partnership with GopherCon Latam."
Events like this reinforce something many engineers already know: Learning happens faster when people can ask questions directly, exchange perspectives, and build relationships with others working on similar challenges.
Extending the Conversation: São Paulo Meetup
As part of Ardan Labs Connect, we also hosted a São Paulo Meetup organized in collaboration with Meetup SP. The gathering featured talks from Bill Kennedy, Tiago Temporim, and Paulo Simão and opened the door for an even broader segment of the local developer community to participate.
The meetup created a more informal environment where attendees could continue discussions sparked during the main event while welcoming new developers into the conversation. It became another opportunity for the community to exchange ideas, ask questions, and connect with experienced engineers.
By extending the event beyond the workshop setting, the meetup helped reinforce the core mission of Ardan Labs Connect: building stronger developer communities through direct interaction.
How Go and AI Are Shaping the Future of Software Engineering
One of the themes that naturally emerged during the event was the growing intersection between Go and artificial intelligence.
Go continues to play a significant role in building high-performance distributed systems. At the same time, AI is reshaping how software is designed, developed, and delivered. When engineers understand both areas, they are better positioned to design systems that are efficient, scalable, and adaptable to new capabilities.
However, the broader lesson from the event goes beyond any single technology. Software engineering continues to evolve quickly, and the most valuable skill developers can cultivate is the ability to learn, adapt, and collaborate with others in the field.
Ardan Labs Connect was designed to support exactly that kind of growth.
What the Success of Ardan Labs Connect Means for the Global Developer Community
The turnout and enthusiasm in São Paulo confirmed something we hoped would be true. Developers are eager to gather again in person. They want to learn from each other, share experiences, and explore where the industry is heading together.
Engineers from across Brazil and beyond joined the event, bringing different perspectives and experiences that enriched every session and conversation.
This first Ardan Labs Connect was only the beginning.
Our goal is to continue bringing these kinds of events to more communities around the world, creating opportunities for engineers to connect, learn, and grow together.
Ardan Labs Connect is designed to travel.
If you are part of a developer community, meetup group, or organization that would like to host an Ardan Labs Connect event in your city, we would love to hear from you. Our goal is to collaborate with local communities to create events that support learning, encourage discussion, and strengthen the global software engineering network.
